Not fast enough for high-res HD June 12, 2010 Bought this and a Transcend 32GB class 6, for my new Canon Vixia HFS200. The Patriot Iris card can't keep up with the high speed requirements when I record in HD using MXP or FXP modes (1920 x 1080) and/or 24 fps cinematic mode. It works ok at lower settings but I am disappointed in this card's overall performance. The Transcend on the other hand works flawlessly regardless of what the HFS200 threw at it.
Slower than SanDisk class 2 SD card June 3, 2010 I ordered Patriot to shoot 34Mbs videos on Olympus E-P1 digital camera. 34Mbs requires 4.5 MBs minimum sustainable write speed so I thought that Patriot IRIS being class 6 (6MBs) SD card has more than enough write performance. And it cost half of price of similar SanDisk card. Oh boy, was I wrong. First time in my life I took the risk of buying non-SanDisk memory card and I am sure now it was the last time. I never had any problems with SanDisk cards of any kind. Patriot worked okay when I started shooting videos. After two or three second of video recording it consistently gave write error and I had to power cycle camera. I was so amazed that immediately filled RMA with Amazon and sent it back next morning without asking replacement. Thats why I love Amazon so much - there is no hassle with returning merchandise, free shipping, no fees.
I have spare 4GB SanDisk class 2 SD card (2MBs minimum speed) and used it instead. It handled and continue to handle 34Mbs videos with no problems, no missed frames, no write errors. Amazing!
Does not work with my JVC GZ-HM300 Dual Slot High Definition Camcorder May 29, 2010 Bought a 16GB card which failed inside the camcorder. Amazon was great about replacing it quickly, had a new card the next day. Had the same problem with the new card and sent that back too. Ended up with the Transcend 16GB card which worked perfectly and I love the no hassle packaging.
Works great! May 25, 2010 Got two of these for the Canon SX1 IS HD video mode. Class 6 is recommended by Canon for HD videos. No problems so far with this card as yet. As always Amazon had the most affordable price.
Product was as described, but TOO fat for my Kodak camera April 26, 2010 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had read about another Patriot SDHC flash card being too thick, but not about this particular one, so I decided to make the plunge. I thought because it was the "Iris" series, that it would not be the same: Wrong!
I put it into my newly purchased Kodak Playsport HD camcorder. It went in OK, but had to press it a little hard to get it to securely seat. I used it to record a bit, also with no problems. However, when I went to eject the card, it would not release out of my camera. I had to get a pair of tweezers in order to extract it. It was then that I knew that perhaps ALL Patriot cards are manufactured a little thicker than normal.
I then purchased two other card brands: an A-Data 16 GB class 6 SDHC just like this, and an 8 GB Transcend microSDHC with adapter. Both work flawlessly with my camera with no insertion/removal issues. At this point, I returned it to Amazon for a refund.
I will not buy another Patriot branded flash card for this very issue. Given that this has been more than 1 person's experience, I believe there is a manufacturing defect going on with their products.
